Pembroke Library will be hosting a Community Day Expo

April 23, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The Pembroke Library will be hosting a Community Day Expo on Saturday, April 23, 9 am to 3 pm. The first Expo, held in 2019, was very popular with the community. This year’s event will feature topics and knowledgeable presenters:
• 1845 Leviathan Parsonstown Telescope in Scotland (once the world’s largest telescope) with electrical engineer, Dwight Lanpher of Northeast Harbor, who is the Maine State Liaison for astronomy groups as well as former president of Penobscot Valley Star Gazers.
• Astronomy, Astrophotography and Astronomical Imaging with co-founder of Downeast Amateur Astronomers Club, Charlie Sawyer of Pembroke. He is also the owner of Sawyer Observatory in Pembroke, Maine.• Rocks, Minerals and Jewelry Making with surveyors, Wade and Donna Smith of Hampden, who are experts in rock identification and making jewelry.• Rethinking Creepy Crawly Bugs with well-known local naturalist, Fred Gralenski of Pembroke, who leads amphibian walks in the spring and writes a bi-weekly column, “Quoddy Nature Notes,” for The Quoddy Tides.
• Owl Pellets with Lysa Intrator, who moved to the Pembroke community about a year and a half ago to enjoy the beauty of the Maine woods. In a previous life, she taught in public elementary and middle schools, using multi-disciplinary curricula whenever possible. Natural science lessons and an appreciation for all creatures was a core of her teaching.
• Ins and Outs of Hand Knitting with members (at all skill levels) of Knit Wits, a group of knitting enthusiasts that meets weekly at the library.
Friends of the library will also feature a romance and mystery book sale on the front porch along with their popular food sale near the circulation desk on the first floor. As always, there are free books in a large blue tote on the porch. Raffle tickets will be available on a new raffle quilt, too, made by members of Ironworks Quilters. Remember the library is handicap accessible; there will be no admission charge.
