Calais Community Hospital is excited to recognize National Rural Health Day on November 20 with a Grand Opening celebration of Baileyville Medical Center.
National Rural Health Day highlights the “Power of Rural” and honors the individuals and organizations committed to meeting the unique health care needs of nearly 61 million people living in rural America. “Rural communities are the backbone of our state, and their health is vital to our collective future,” said Steve Lail, CEO of CCH/DECH. “We’re proud to celebrate the opening of a new rural health center on this day and showcase our unwavering commitment to rural healthcare and the people of Eastern Washington County.”
We invite you to drop by the new Baileyville Medical Center at 71 Broadway St on November 20 between 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Staff and providers will be available to offer tours of the updated facility and answer any questions regarding services at the office. Plus, participants will have the opportunity to mingle with and speak to board members and leadership. Refreshments, give aways and door prizes will also be a part of the celebration.
Plans to bring additional access to healthcare services to Baileyville began in 2023 when CCH submitted a proposal for a Congressional Designated Spending (CDS) grant. After making it through the approval and planning process, renovations began in 2024 and were completed on schedule for a Fall opening. On September 15, 2025 the Baileyville Medical Center welcomed its first patients. This initiative was made possible through the unwavering dedication and hard work of our CCH/DECH team and the crucial grant funding secured with the support of Senators Susan Collins and Angus King.
While rural healthcare comes with many challenges, it is also very rewarding. “Our staff are taking care of their friends and neighbors, people they see at the grocery store, school or local restaurants,” adds Lail. “Caring for rural families deepens our commitment to providing quality, compassionate, and comprehensive care in the communities we are privileged to serve.”
