Fraud and Scam Prevention Training
Here’s the discouraging news: online fraud will happen to you. Here’s the uplifting news: online fraud is predictable and you can avoid it. Anyone who uses the internet and has an email account should learn to identify the signs of online fraud.
Beginning on Wednesday May 14 at 3 p.m., Porter Memorial Library will host a series of Fraud and Scam Prevention Training sessions presented by Elaine Abbott from Sunrise County Economic Council (SCEC). Each training session lasts one hour. They are free and open to the public.
The May 14 session is entitled The Red Flags of Frauds and Scams. Scammers want two things from you: your money and your identity. Don’t make it easy for them to steal from you. Subsequent sessions are scheduled at the library for May 21, Digital Safety for the Real World; June 4, Scam-Proof Your Accounts; June 11, Phishing, Smishing, and Vishing, OH MY!
Elaine Abbott is Regional Broadband Coordinator at SCEC. In addition to providing economic and financial trainings, she develops community-wide surveys and working groups, and facilitates discussion among community members, local officials, and internet service providers. The Fraud and Scam Prevention Training is funded by Maine Connectivity Authority.
Porter Memorial Library is located at 92 Court Street in Machias. For more information about these events, contact the library at 207-255-3933 librarian@porter.lib.me.us. Or contact Elaine Abbott at 207-255-0983 eabbott@sunrisecounty.org.
