Counterfeit cash is showing up at more businesses in New Brunswick.
Police point to an increase in the use of counterfeit Canadian $100 bills, noting they’ve seen nearly 20 cases reported in the past few weeks alone.
You’re advised to look out for certain clues indicating counterfeit cash before accepting it:
some fake bills show the words “prop money” on the silver vertical strip
in other cases, the strip can peel off, which doesn’t happen on genuine bills
identical serial numbers on more than one bill are also a sign of counterfeit cash.
For those who may have received counterfeit money, police say not to use it and to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
