CHARLOTTE, Maine (WQDY) – A great ending to an incident at Round Pond in Charlotte over the weekend.
Shortly after noon on Saturday, Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue were called to Round Pond for a man in the water who had fallen out of his kayak.
According to a social media post, Fire Chief Vincent Day said the Charlotte/Meddybemps rescue boat along with Charlotte Rescue 1 and many first responders headed to the scene. The victim was rescued and brought onboard the boat where first responders treated him and began warming him up. The kayaker was brought to shore and EMT’s evaluated him while warming him in the back of the Charlotte Rescue unit.
Luckily, the victim was wearing a life jacket and had a cell phone to call for help. Chief Day stressed the importance of wearing a life jacket saying that had the victim not been wearing one this call could have turned out much different.
Along with the Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Chief Day thanked the Meddybemps and Pleasant Point fire departments, Downeast EMS, the Maine Warden Service and Washington RCC for helping coordinate the rescue.
