Propane truck halts traffic in Scarborough

On Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at approximately 8:42 am, Maine State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on the Turnpike at Exit 42 southbound in Scarborough. The crash involved a propane truck that went off the road and rolled over. The driver, 37-year-old Matthew Jackson of Raymond, NH who works for LP Transportation of Chester, NY was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for an evaluation. The Exit 42 SB ramp was shut down to traffic and only two lanes were open past the evening commute creating a significant backup of traffic. The propane was pumped out of the tanker and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and the Scarborough Fire Department were also able to safely purge the lines of propane to the truck which avoided a complete shutdown of traffic in the area. All lanes are expected to open up soon.

The crash remains under investigation.
