Holiday Market:
A plethora of artisanal wares – at least one of which could be the perfect gift – will be available for leisurely browsing at the arts center on Saturday, November 29, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eastport Arts Center Holiday Market. Expect to find Christmas crafts and ornaments, jewelry, calendars, artwork, fiber works, honey, candles, hand creams, mosaics and so on. A lunch of soup and cornbread is planned for those who shop up an appetite.
Andrea Gibson film:
The late poet Andrea Gibson, who was born and raised in Calais, became the Poet Laureate of Colorado and sparked a revival in spoken word poetry, will be featured on screen during a free showing of Come See Me in the Good Light at Eastport Arts Center on Saturday, December 6, at 7 p.m.
Festival of Trees:
The highlight of the season – and there will indeed be many lights to see – is the Festival of Trees, planned for Saturday, December 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Eastport Arts Center. Now in its 16th year, this event has traditionally seen dozens of trees decorated by community volunteers with artistic leanings, with each tree’s theme chosen by the decorator and brought to life through their personalized touches. Some trees are graced with additional handmade gifts to complete the effect.
The trees are auctioned by silent bidding with the winners announced at the end of the evening. Throughout the event, live music will be played and seasonal treats will be available. A raffle of items designed to be ideal gifts will complete the occasion. All proceeds raised will support the arts center.
