Washington County Sheriff’s Office Drug Trafficking Investigation Leads to Significant Seizure in Calais

On April 16, 2023, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies covered a criminal threatening complaint in Calais that led to an investigation of a drug possession bail violation by the suspect. In the course of this investigation, deputies developed probable cause to believe that a drug trafficking operation was being conducted from a residence on Lafayette St. in Calais. Sheriff’s Office deputies obtained and executed a search warrant on the Lafayette St. residence with the assistance of agents from the United States Border Patrol, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and Homeland Security Investigations.

As a result of the search warrant, the Sheriff’s Office seized over 6 grams of suspected fentanyl, over 72 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and over 105 grams of suspected cocaine base with a total street value of approximately $46,000. Also seized were three illegally possessed firearms, $2,700 in suspected cash drug proceeds, and other evidence of trafficking.

This evidence resulted in the arrests of three subjects located at the residence. Arrested were Stephen Perkins 32, of Calais for aggravating trafficking of schedule drugs (class A), possession of firearms by a prohibited person, criminal threatening, and violation of bail; Kaprie Lambert 25, of New York, NY, for aggravated trafficking of schedule drugs (class A); and Devin Madigan 28, of Bangor for aggravated trafficking of schedule drugs (class A). Further charges are possible. Perkins is currently held without bail while Lambert and Madigan are held on $5,000 cash each pending their arraignments.

The Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the assistance of the USBP, MDEA, and HSI with this investigation.
