Bath – The body of a male was recovered by the Maine Marine Patrol yesterday at 6 p.m. from the shore of Woods Island in the Kennebec River. The body will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for examination and confirmation of identification.
The body was spotted by good Samaritans on Crawford Island shortly before 6 p.m., who called 911 to report it. Woods Island is a short distance from Crawford Island in the Kennebec River.
With assistance from the Bath Police Department, Marine Patrol Officers recovered the body from Woods Island and transported it to shore, where it was transferred to a local funeral home before being taken to the ME’s office.
The Maine Marine Patrol had been searching the Kennebec River near Bath for Robert Stolt, 22 of Augusta, since Sunday, July 6. Stolt was fishing Sunday when he attempted to rescue his dog, which had jumped in the river from Stolt’s 23-foot boat near Lines Island.
Stolt’s dog was recovered safely Sunday by the local Animal Control Officer from the shore of Lines Island.
A female passenger on Stolt’s boat along with a second dog were rescued by other boaters Sunday and transported to shore where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
