*A horse hit the highway before sunrise—and troopers jumped into action.*

Around 3 this morning, drivers on I-95 near Burnham spotted a horse trotting down the breakdown lane. It crossed into the southbound side and kept pace with traffic like it had somewhere to be.

Troopers tracked it down near mile 143 and secured it safely using a rope and cruiser bumper. The horse was scared, but not hurt. Its owner, who lives nearby, showed up shortly after.

Animal Control helped load the horse into a trailer and get it home. No humans or horses were harmed.

We also want to thank the members of the public who stopped to assist Troopers in getting the horse under control.
