Governor Janet Mills made the proclamation this morning, as Flagg is expected to be the top pick in tonight’s NBA Draft.
Flagg, who’s from Newport, put Maine basketball on the map after leading Nokomis High to its first state title in 2022.
Since then, he’s made waves with Team USA and was just named both Player and Rookie of the Year at Duke.
Governor Mills says his hard work and sportsmanship are an inspiration to Maine kids chasing their own dreams.
Flagg says he’s proud to call Maine home and thankful for the support.
New Balance, based here in Maine and partnered with Flagg, is raising flags at its Norway and Skowhegan locations.
