If you have information Please Call James Johnson 598-7725
Sometime in the last two weeks, a giant anchor was stolen from a property on Cape Split in South Addison, and James Johnson is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of the thief or thieves who took it and the return of the anchor.
He estimates the anchor stands about 5 feet tall and weighs as much as 2,000 pounds. There were no drag marks around the anchor, which could indicate it was lifted onto a truck using a crane.
Johnson said he was diving for urchins when he found the anchor in about 35 feet of water off Jonesport, and it may have come from one of the historic schooners that visited Jonesport frequently in its long history.
A friend with a dragger helped Johnson lift it out of the ocean, and he gifted it to a summer friend whose home he checks on and found it was stolen last week
The owner is very upset, as is Johnson, and that’s why he’s offering this reward.
