Calais Community Hospital Introduces New 3D Mammography Machine

Calais, Maine (June 9, 2023) – Calais Community Hospital (CCH) has introduced a new, state-of-the-art 3D mammography machine. The new machine, a Senographe Pristina, is the highest standard of care for mammograms and captures high-quality images while automatically reducing radiation exposure to the minimum necessary.

“We are excited to offer our patients this new technology,” said Mammographer Billie Jo Ham, B.S., R.T. (R). “It will allow us to provide our patients with the highest quality care possible.”

3D mammography, also known as tomosynthesis, is a type of mammogram that takes multiple images of the breast from different angles. This allows radiologists to see the breast tissue in three dimensions, which can help them to detect breast cancer earlier.

CCH’s new 3D mammography machine is the first in Eastern Washington County. The hospital hopes that the new machine will encourage women to be more compliant with screening guidelines and not skip their mammograms.

“Mammograms are a critical part of maintaining a healthy life,” said Ham. “We want to make it easy and comfortable for women to get screened.”

The new 3D mammography machine is available now at CCH. To schedule an appointment, call (207) 555-1212.
