On February 18 2023 at approximately 9:10 pm the Washington County RCC received a call from a 31 year old male stating he had been assaulted on a walking trail near South Street in Calais. Calais EMS was dispatched to the scene where they located and transported the man to Calais Hospital.
Once at the hospital medical personnel discovered a gun shot wound from what appeared to be a small caliber weapon. The wound was not life threatening but the man was eventually transported to Northern Light Hospital in Bangor for further treatment.
Deputies and a Detective from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate the scene of the altercation. Through the use of Sheriff’s Office K-9’s shell casings were located at the scene and the weapon was located by an individual not connected to the shooting who turned it over to an Officer of the Baileyville Police Department the following day. Through the investigation Detective White was able to identify and locate the parties involved in the shooting. At the time of this release the man remains in Northern Light Hospital. The investigation is ongoing and we do not believe there is any further threat to the public. Any one with information reference this incident is asked to contact Detective White at 255-8308.
