EASTPORT, Maine (WQDY) – An Eastport man escaped a fire Wednesday morning but his small dwelling in Quoddy Village was destroyed.

Eastport fire chief Richard Clark told WQDY NEWS the fire started on the outside
from a homemade chimney.

The resident’s phone didn’t work and he couldn’t report
the fire.

Clark said passersby saw the smoke and they reported the fire in the structure off Barton Street.

Firefighters from Pleasant Point and Perry responded for mutual aid.
