Maine woman sentenced to 47 years in death of 3-year-old son

 Maine (AP) — A Maine woman convicted in the fatal beating of her 3-year-old son has been sentenced to 47 years in prison. Jessica Trefethen, of Stockton Springs, was convicted of depraved indifference murder in the death of her son, Maddox Williams. He was one of several children whose deaths in June 2021 drew statewide attention — and reform efforts by state lawmakers and Democratic Gov. Janet Mills — after parents were charged in their deaths. Trefethen did not address the judge at her sentencing. Maddox was brought to the hospital covered with bruises, was missing teeth, had a fractured spine and ruptured bowel.
