On October 31, 2022 at approximately 7:23 am the Washington County RCC received a 911 call reporting a serious motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles on Rt 192 in Northfield. Deputies and emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival and subsequent investigation, it was determined that the 2005 Toyota Camry driven by 33-year-old Helen Dominatto of Massachusetts had crossed the center line into the path of the 2020 GMC Sierra Pickup driven by William Sternbergh 65, of Jonesboro. Ms. Dominatto did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Sternbergh was transported to Downeast Community hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies were assisted by Machias PD, Maine State Police accident reconstructionist, Machias Ambulance and Fire Departments from Wesley, Marshfield and Machias. The crash is still under investigation but neither speed nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash.
