Worthington Scholarship Foundation awards $6.4 million to Maine scholars

Maine foundation empowers students to strengthen the future of our state

ROCKLAND, Maine (September XX, 2022) – The Worthington Scholarship Foundation proudly welcomes 403 new scholars to its program with $6.4 million of awarded financial support. These 2022 recipients now join the esteemed group of 600 current Worthington Scholars, all chosen for their determination in pursuing a post-secondary education, a mission that the Worthington Scholarship Foundation has dedicated itself to since 2010.

Worthington Scholars are graduates from 69 high schools within 11 Maine counties who will attend Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, Husson, Maine Maritime Academy, Thomas, any campus of the University of Maine system, or any campus of the Maine Community College system.

We’ve been deeply invested in Maine’s future since 2010, and we’re proud to make another significant contribution to our mission this year with these incredible students,” says Julie Bourgoin, Executive Director of the Worthington Scholarship Foundation. “Our work is to be an ally to our scholars and support them along their path to graduate college. This starts at the application process. Unlike many traditional scholarship programs, we consider each applicant holistically, and pride ourselves on providing scholarships to candidates whose grit and determination reflect the very spirit of Maine.”

The Worthington Scholarship Foundation was founded by Beverly and David Worthington with a core belief about higher education: They want to help students be successful in achieving their post-secondary goals by providing funding and student support services. Inspired by the tenacity of Maine students, the Worthington Scholarship Foundation empowers a new generation of Mainers to access post-secondary education through scholarships tailored for them.

The Worthington Scholarship Foundation isn’t just a scholarship foundation,” says Julie Bourgoin. “It’s also a powerful resource that prepares Maine students to navigate through life, long after they’ve finished their degrees and certificates.”

To be eligible to apply for a Worthington Scholarship Foundation scholarship, students must be Maine residents, graduating seniors at a participating high school with plans to enroll full-time at a partner college or university, and selection is based on merit and financial need. For the high school graduating class of 2023, the Worthington Scholarship Foundation will begin accepting applications January 1, 2023, and students must apply no later than April 15, 2023.
