Deputy arrested on charges of domestic assault in Maine
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Police say a Kennebec County sheriff’s deputy accused of assaulting his wife is facing a number of charges. The deputy, who has been suspended without pay, did not enter a plea in his initial court appearance on Wednesday. He was arrested Monday evening. Charges include aggravated assault, terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, and unlawful sexual contact. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
UMaine appoints interim athletic director
ORONO, Maine (AP) — The University of Maine’s associate athletic director for compliance will step up to serve as acting athletic director at the University of Maine next month. The appointment of Samantha Hegmann-Wary was announced after the departure of AD Ken Ralph, who is moving to Division III Southwestern University. Hegmann-Wary will lead the department during a transformative era marked by a $90 million grant from the Harold Alfond Foundation to upgrade athletic facilities.
‘River Dave,’ banned from New Hampshire site, moves to Maine
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A hermit who was evicted from New Hampshire property on which he had lived for nearly three decades has found a new home in Maine. Eighty-two-year-old David Lidstone has put in windows and is working on installing a chimney on his rustic three-room cabin. He said it is on land he bought. Lidstone grew up in Maine but declined to say where he was living or provide a contact for the landowner. A family member confirmed he has moved there. He had returned to live on the New Hampshire property but faced a $500-a-day fine if he didn’t leave.
