Planned Power Outage
Sunday, April 24th, 2022
5:45 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

On Sunday, April 24th, 2022, a ten-hour planned outage by neighboring utility NB Power will cut the electrical feed to Eastern Maine Electric’s transmission line serving four of the Co-op’s substations.

As a result of NB Powers outage, there will be an EMEC power outage from 5:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. affecting:

  • All EMEC members in Washington County.
  • Penobscot County EMEC members in the following towns: Carroll, Drew, Kingman, Lakeville, Lee, Mattawamkeag, Prentiss, Springfield, Webster, and Winn.
  • And in Aroostook County, the towns of Bancroft, Haynesville, Macwahoc, Molunkus, Orient, Reed Plantation, and Weston.

Eastern Maine Electric plans to make the most of the NB Power outage by taking care of repairs and upgrades that would otherwise require separate planned outages. We regret the inconvenience this planned outage will cause, but we have been assured by NB Power that it must be done, and that it can not safely be done except in daylight.

Home Planning Tips for This Outage:

Before the outage:

  • Make sure mobile phones and other devices are fully charged
  • Turn up home heat well before the beginning of the outage.
  • Plan breakfast and lunch the night before, and put anything you will need from the refrigerator or freezer in a cooler on ice.
  • Plug in a corded phone, if you have one. Remember that, on landline phones, the wireless handsets will not work during a pow

During the outage:

  • Keep refrigerators and freezers closed.*
  • To retain home heat, minimize trips in and out of the house
  • Please pay attention to directions and safety instructions if you operate a generator during the outage.

*Refrigerators will stay cool for several hours without power if the door stays closed. Frozen food will stay frozen for 24-48 hours without power, depending on how full the freezer is. (Packed freezers will stay frozen longer)
