Draft Hunting Plan for Public Review

Northern Maine National Wildlife Refuge Complex Releases

Draft Hunting Plan for Public Review

Hunting is a traditional use of the National Wildlife Refuge System. At the Northern Maine National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Complex, we welcome people of all backgrounds and abilities to participate in recreational hunting.

Northern Maine NWR Complex is seeking public review and comment on its proposed hunting opening plans. The public is invited to review the draft documents for our proposed hunts, including the Draft Hunting Plan, Compatibility Determinations, and Environmental Assessment. The Northern Maine NWR Complex is proposing to:

  • Expand opportunities for deer hunting at the Baring Division of Moosehorn NWR.
  • Expand opportunities for big game, upland game, and woodcock and snipe on the Edmunds Division of Moosehorn NWR lands.
  • Expand opportunities for big game, upland game, and migratory birds on Sunkhaze Meadows NWR in Milford.

Hunters on Moosehorn NWR will be required to carry a signed copy of the refuge’s Hunting Regulations Leaflet.

The Moosehorn and Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge Hunt Plans (April 2021) are now available for public comment. The comment period will be open through the end of the “2021-2022 Station-Specific Hunting and Sport Fishing Regulations” comment period, to be announced in the Federal Register. The end of the comment period will be 60 days after the rule publishes, which we anticipate to be mid-June. If you wish to comment, please note “Moosehorn NWR Hunt Plan’ or “Sunkhaze Meadows NWR Hunt Plan” in the subject line of an email addressed to HuntFishRuleComments@fws.gov.
