The Calais School Committee met on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the Calais Middle/High School Library. In attendance were: Chairman Joseph Footer, Vice Chairman Robert Greenlaw, Celia Geel, James Macdonald, Michael Chadwick and Superintendent of Schools Ronald Jenkins.

1. Call to Order/Introductions:

Chairman Joseph Footer called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the board in the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence.

II. Consent Agenda

A. Motion by James Macdonald, second by Celia Geel, unanimous vote to add an item to the
Agenda under New Business. A. Act on the resignation of Jennifer Donovan-James, 5th Grade Teacher at Calais Elementary School.

B. Motion by Bob Greenlaw, second by Michael Chadwick, unanimous vote to approve the Minutes of February 24, 2021.

III. Present Communications to the School Committee received from the community

None noted

IV. Public Participation

James Macdonald spoke of the Liaison Committee Meeting held on March 3, 2021.

Michael Chadwick conveyed thanks to the board for continuing the meeting via Zoom. He also brought up that the high school students were not getting enough instruction time.

V. New Business

A. Motion by James Macdonald, second by Bob Greenlaw, unanimous vote to accept the resignation of Jennifer Donovan-James, 5th Grade Teacher at Calais Elementary School with regret.

B. Principal Sue Carter reported that the Calais Elementary School was fully open and things were going well. Everyone is working hard to make it work with only one remote student. It was also reported that the vaccinations were going well.

C. Liaison Committee members gave an update on the possible Calais Elementary School Construction project.

D. Principal Mary Anne Spearin presented the survey results of Calais Middle and Calais High Schools opening at full capacity from the parents and teachers to the board. A discussion followed.

E. Motion by James Macdonald, second by Bob Greenlaw, unanimous vote to approve the Middle School plan to open fully on March 29, 2021.

VI. The next scheduled meeting will be March 24, 2021 with a Liaison meeting scheduled prior to that meeting.
