UMS is beneficiary of $240M from Harold Alfond Foundation

ORONO, Maine (AP) — Officials say a $240 million commitment by the Harold Alfond Foundation to the University of Maine System is the largest gift to a public institution of higher education in New England history.

The commitment over the next 12 years is part of a $500 million gift aimed at providing an economic boost to the state.

Chancellor Dannel Malloy said the funding will be used to transform academic collaborations and facilities, provide resources to faculty, support
student success, and accelerate workforce and economic opportunities for Maine.
