ROBBINSTON, Maine (WQDY NEWS) - A fire destroyed a vacant cottage in Robbinston Sunday morning.

Robbinston firefighters were dispatched at around 6 a.m. for the fire on Ramsdell Lane, just off the Lake Road.

Perry firefighters were started for mutual aid as well as Calais Fire EMS but turned back after Robbinston crews reported the building was already down when they arrived.

A neighbor reported the fire, Fire Chief Bob Merrill told WQDY NEWS.

"When he got up he looked out and saw one wall standing ... when we got here it wasn't even the wall standing, it was just the floor. We did a quick walk around -- there were no footprints to the place. [It's] a total loss," Merrill said..

"It's my understanding that there was power to the building and a witness did see the power box sparking against the side of the building. At this point in time, I don't consider it suspicious but we're going to be looking at things a little bit further," Merrill said.

About 7 or 8 Robbinston volunteer firefighters responded to the call.

"That's about the whole crew," said Merrill.

"That's what you expect these days --- volunteerism isn't what it used to be."
