West District RCMP are also investigating this incident.

RCMP received a call around 5:00 p.m. (Atlantic time) that a person may still be in the van seen floating on the water.

Canadian Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and U.S. Coast Guard were also alerted.

RCMP located the driver near the Mulholland Lighthouse on Narrows Road on Campobello Island.

Police said the driver of the vehicle had stopped to do some sightseeing but had failed to put the vehicle into park. The vehicle started to roll and the driver was able to escape after freeing his foot which had become stuck in the vehicle.  He was able to get out of the vehicle uninjured before it plunged down the embankment into the Bay of Fundy.

Coast Guard Sector Northern New England issued a safety Marine broadcast advising mariners of a vehicle possibly submerged drifting outbound to sea in the vicinity of the Lubec Narrows and the Quoddy Head Narrows.

The RCMP said the vehicle was located Thursday morning, October 10, near the lighthouse point.

The investigation is continuing.
