The chief said the fire was accidental.

It started when hay came in contact with hot machinery in the bed of the truck. The driver quickly raised the dump bed to offload the hay onto US 1 at Steamboat Street saving the truck from fire damage. Calais police arrived on scene to block traffic and close River Road.
