Troop J Weekly Report - Sep. 16, 2013

This week Troop J responded to 159 calls for service. The following are noteworthy complaints:


Trooper Daniel Ryan responded to a criminal mischief complaint in Blue Hill where a sign was reported damaged. Investigation continues.


Trooper Chris Smith and K9 Winger assisted Sergeant Alden Bustard with tracking for a male who fled from a pursuit in Steuben. Trooper Smith and Winger tracked for several hours and did not locate the male.

Trooper Kim Sawyer spoke with the owner of the Hilltop Restaurant in Crawford is missing her Sheltie, 11 years old, male, named Shep. He took off from her husband on 9/6/13 from the Arm Road, Crawford. Recommended calling WRCC for local Animal Control, newspapers, local radio, etc.

Trooper Jeff Taylor summonsed a 36-year-old Steuben woman for operating after suspension as the result of a traffic stop in Steuben.

Sergeant Alden Bustard initiated a traffic stop on a motorcycle traveling 127mph on Route 1 in Steuben. The motorcycle fled down the Smithville Road and behind a residence near the Number 7 Road. The operator escaped from custody and fled into the woods behind the residence. The operator was identified as being a 33-year-old Sedgwick man. The investigation continues until further contact with that subject.


Trooper Daniel Ryan responded to Blue Hill for a shoplifting complaint. A person was given a warning by the owner of the grocery store not to return. Investigation continues.


Trooper Greg Roy summonsed a 25-year-old Brooksville man for criminal speeding as the result of a traffic stop in Deer Isle.

Trooper Cliff Peterson received a theft complaint in Franklin. It was reported things were stored in a garage on the property of a construction company in Franklin. Approximately twelve thousand dollar's worth of tools had been taken. The investigation continues.


Trooper Miles Carpenter responded to a theft complaint in Harrington where prescription medications were reported stolen. Investigation continues.

Trooper Miles Carpenter responded to a harassment complaint in Steuben where warnings were given.

Trooper Bryan Creamer investigated a report of a burglary in Hancock. It was reported that a safe had been stolen out of the bedroom. Investigation continues.

Trooper Cliff Peterson received a theft complaint in Sullivan. A bank card was reported stolen. The investigation continues.


Trooper Kim Sawyer received a noise/fireworks complaint at Jaspers Beach in Machiasport. Trooper Kim Sawyer arrived and no one was there. Trooper Kim Sawyer stayed there for a half hour and no one came back.

Trooper Kim Sawyer received a complaint for a vehicle off the road in Edmunds and as a result, a 36-year-old Pembroke man was arrested for OUI-Drugs and violating conditions of release.

Trooper Cliff Peterson received a theft complaint in Otis. Eight sections of 6x8 stockade fencing had been taken from a property. A 75-year-old Otis man admitted to taking the fencing and was summonsed for theft.


Trooper Chris Smith, K9 Winger, and Trooper Greg Roy attended the 50th Maine Firefighters Convention in Ellsworth. Trooper Smith and Trooper Roy set up a booth representing the Maine State Police as a recruiting event.

Trooper Barnard responded to a theft complaint at the Sorrento Lobster Pound. Money was reported stolen.

Trooper Kim Sawyer received information from Park Ranger Charles Moores of Cobscook Bay, Edmunds, who advised that a few days ago people left tire marks and tires from burning rubber at the boat ramp.

Trooper Kim Sawyer received a report in Perry that the rear windshield of a pickup was damaged. They do not believe it was intentional, but not sure how it happened. Photos were taken.

Trooper Staci Carpenter responded to a domestic dispute in Berry Township. The complainant requested that her ex-boyfriend be removed from the residence. He left voluntarily and no further action was taken.


Trooper Kim Sawyer responded to a request from a complainant for a removal of his intoxicated girlfriend after a verbal argument between them. Officer Mike Crabtree assisted on scene and by transporting the girlfriend to a relatives for the evening.

Trooper Cliff Peterson arrested a 31-year-old Trenton man for operating after habitual offender revocation and on an outstanding arrest warrant for unpaid fines as the result of a traffic stop in Trenton.

Sergeant Alden Bustard summonsed a 20-year-old Deer Isle man for operating an unregistered motor vehicle as the result of a traffic stop in Deer Isle.
