Calais Police Department Report
August 12-18, 2013

Calais Police Department recorded 70 incidents for the week of August 12-18. These incidents included :  Bail checks,  911 hang-up calls,  paper service, alarm c alls, assists to other agencies, reports of suspicious activity,  animal complaints, lost & found, disorderly  conduct, criminal threatening, multiple thefts as well as investigations.  Cases that have been cleared wherein information can be shared are as follows:  

As the result of an investigation reported July 10, a 47-year-old Houlton man was charged with Theft of Services when he failed to pay for an extended motel stay.  Also charged in the same incident was a 34-year-old Calais woman.  Both parties were summoned with a court date of October 28, 2013.

On August 12, a 37-year-old Calais man reported to the Calais Police Department stating his intention to surrender himself on an outstanding warrant from Waldo County.  The man was bailed from Calais with a court date of September 17, 2013 in Belfast District Court.

On August 14, officers responded to the report of a theft at a store.  They were advised a subject, a 37-year-old  Robbinston woman was being detained.  The store reported that the woman left the store without paying for approximately $30.00 in merchandise.  She was charged with Theft and is to appear in Calais District Court in October.  

On August 16,  2013 CPD officer responded to downtown store for the report of a theft.  After investigation, a summons was issued to a 30-year-old Eskasoni, Nova Scotia man  for the charge of Theft.  His court date is in October.

Officers were dispatched to the area outside a downtown restaurant on August 17, for the report of a large fight.  Upon arrival officers noted 50-75 people outside the restaurant involved in the disturbance.  As officers interviewed witnesses,  many in the crowd moved to a nearby bar and officers remained in the vicinity to deter any further altercations.  As a result of their investigation, officers summoned a 32-year-old Baileyville man for Disorderly Conduct. He has an October court date.

As the result of a complaint from a local business, CPD officer responded for the report of a theft of merchandise from the store.  Evidence and statements collected resulted in the summons of  a 20-year-old Augusta man for Theft.  He has an October court date.

Calais PD responded to 4 motor vehicle accidents during this time, at various locations throughout the City.  Twice this week, officers responded to medical calls to assist Calais Fire / Rescue.  Officers continue to investigate reports of theft, burglary, bail violations and drug activity.
