Meddybemps, Charlotte and Cooper volunteer fire departments responded to the scene. Alexander firefighters were on standby for a while until it was determined crews on scene had a handle on it.

Charlotte Fire Chief Dana Hatton told WQDY NEWS said he doubted there was any power in the building. He didn't know how the fire may have started.

The fire location presented some challenges but firefighters were able to knock down the blaze and then work on the hot spots. Charred debris and the old turbine rising above a concrete base was all that remained.

The power house sits parallel to Route 191 over the Dennys River where it flows out of Meddybemps Lake.  For a time, traffic was unable to pass the narrow area where the fire location was but mostly the road was down to one lane during the time firefighters were on scene.
