Troop J Weekly Report - Jun. 24, 2013

This week Troop J responded to 189 calls for service. The following are noteworthy complaints:

6-17:

Trooper Kim Sawyer received a complaint in Waite that someone stole items from a property sometime within the last two weeks.

Trooper Keith York arrested a 29-year-old Machiasport man for OUI after he was stopped for driving erratically with his tractor trailer in Milbridge. Lieutenant Travis Willey of Washington County Sheriff's Office also assisted with a DRE exam.

Trooper Cliff Peterson responded to Route 182 in Hancock in reference to a vehicle that was operating erratically. The vehicle had nearly struck Trooper Greg Roy as he was conducting a traffic stop in Franklin. Trooper Peterson located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and began to accelerate. Trooper Peterson pursued the vehicle from Route 182 in Hancock onto Route 1. The vehicle then continued traveling north on Route 1. Trooper Peterson pursued the vehicle for approximately four miles before it pulled into a driveway and stopped. The operator then fled into the woods on foot. Trooper Chris Smith and canine, Winger, responded to the scene to track the operator. The operator, a 26-year-old Ellsworth man was located a short time later and was taken into custody without further incident. His license was under suspension and he was on probation. He was arrested for eluding and faces numerous other charges including OUI and Operating After Suspension.

Trooper Greg Roy arrested a 25-year-old Milbridge man for OUI as the result of a traffic stop in Franklin. He was transported to the Hancock County jail.

Trooper Greg Roy responded to a domestic dispute in Surry. A 49-year-old man had been released from jail earlier in the day with bail conditions that prohibited him from consuming alcohol. He had been drinking and was yelling and swearing. The man was arrested for violation of conditions of release. He refused a chemical test.

Trooper Cliff Peterson received a theft complaint in Hancock. It was reported that the complainant had returned to the seasonal residence and discovered that the propane tank had been taken from outside the residence.

6-18:

Trooper Daniel Ryan handled a harassment complaint in Deer Isle where a woman was receiving harassing calls from a Massachusetts number. Investigation continues.

Trooper Daniel Ryan responded to Sedgwick for a family fight. This was found to be verbal only and parties were separated.

Trooper Andrew Foss responded to a criminal mischief complaint in Wesley where a window was damaged on a barn. Investigation continues.

Trooper Jeff Taylor investigated a burglary complaint at the Hancock Baptist Church. All of the door handles on the exterior of the building had been broken but there was no indication that entry had been made.

Trooper Jeff Taylor received a burglary complaint in Sullivan. It was reported that the Frenchman Bay Library had been broken into. A window had been broken to gain entry and things had been moved around but there did not appear to be anything missing.

6-19:

Trooper Andrew Foss responded to a report of a vehicle crash on Route 1A in Jonesboro near the Whitneyville town line. A 2003 maroon Hyundai Elantra, owned and operated by Daniel Snowdeal, 48 of Jonesboro, was headed towards Route 1 in Jonesboro when it lost control and went across the opposing lane of traffic and struck a pole. The vehicle came to rest on its roof in the ditch. Snowdeal sustained severe trauma in the crash and was deceased at the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle. Airbags deployed and a seatbelt was not used. The vehicle was totaled. Factors in the crash appear to be alcohol and speed. Trooper Foss as assisted by Sergeant Jeffrey Ingemi, Trooper Miles Carpenter, Jonesboro Fire Department, Machias Fire Department and the Machias Ambulance Service.

Trooper Andrew Foss assisted Forestry in Northfield with a disorderly 47-year-old man who was being summonsed for an ATV violation.

Trooper Andrew Foss responded to a family fight complaint in Lubec. A 36-year-old man was arrested for assault and obstructing the report of a crime or injury. Sergeant Jeffrey Ingemi and Pleasant Point Police Department assisted.

Trooper Chad Lindsey responded to a family fight complaint in Princeton. A 35-year-old woman was arrested for assault, criminal threatening, violation of conditions of release and refusing to submit to arrest or detention. Baileyville Police Department assisted.

6-20:

Trooper Kim Sawyer responded to a domestic violence threatening complaint in Lubec. Sergeant Jeff Ingemi and Trooper Keith York assisted. After investigation, 50-year-old woman was arrested for domestic violence assault.

Trooper Kim Sawyer arrested a 26-year-old Perry man for OUI Drugs and Operating without a license (conditional) after an accident on Route 1, Perry. Trooper Jason Fowler assisted with a DRE evaluation. The man was determined to be under the influence of narcotics and CNS depressants.

Trooper Jason Fowler assisted U.S. Customs with a commercial vehicle violation at the Calais Port of Entry. A 50-year-old London, Ontario man was summonsed for Commercial Vehicle Rule Violation: Operation Fourteen Hour Rule.  He was also placed out of service for eight hours.

6-21:
Trooper Kim Sawyer received a report of a large group of people outside the ice cream stand in Princeton. They left prior to Trooper Kim Sawyer's arrival.

Trooper Keith York responded to an assault on the Mogador Road in Steuben. A 36-year-old Franklin man was identified and charged with the assault.

Trooper Keith York responded to a two vehicle crash in Whitneyville. As a result, a 29-year-old Machias man was arrested for operating without a license.

6-22:

Trooper Kim Sawyer received a call from Officer Ryan Murray that a stolen bus was located on Route 190 Perry. After arriving on scene the owners had observed their bus on the lawn. The resident of the home had no idea how it had gotten there. The owners were happy to have their bus back and did not want a criminal investigation regarding this case.

Trooper Kim Sawyer received a complaint from a man in Trescott that a male took his truck. Trooper Kim Sawyer responded to the male's residence, but he was not there. Trooper Kim Sawyer located him on foot and he claimed he did not take a truck. Investigation continues.

Trooper David Barnard responded to the a convenience store in Orland for a report of an assault. It was reported that a man in a black Hummer followed the complainant on Route 1. The complainant stopped at the store and went inside. The man followed him inside and assaulted him. A 27-year-old man was identified and charged with the assault.

Trooper Keith York responded to a Burglary/Theft in Addison. Approximately 1500 blood worms were taken. Investigation continues.

Trooper Jeff Taylor summonsed a 40-year-old Hancock man for operating after suspension as the result of a traffic stop in Hancock.

Trooper Greg Roy arrested a 28-year-old Trenton man for operating after suspension as the result of a traffic stop in Trenton.

6-23:

Sergeant Alden Bustard arrested a 29-year-old Bucksport man for OUI as the result of a traffic stop in Orland. The man was transported to the Hancock County jail.

Trooper Jeff Taylor arrested a 24-year-old Ellsworth man for OUI as the result of a traffic stop in Hancock. The man was transported to the Hancock County jail.

Trooper Greg Roy arrested a 39-year-old Orland man for OUI as the result of a traffic stop in Orland. He was transported to the Hancock County jail.
