Firefighters Douse Junkyard Fire - May. 18, 2013

MEDDYBEMPS, Maine (WQDY NEWS) - Firefighters worked for several hours Saturday extingushing a fire at Harry Smith's junkyard.

"It started in the brush. They were cutting some metals and it got into the brush and then got into one of the metal piles that had some rubber coated wire and stuff like that," Meddybemps Fire Chief Ike Winchester told WQDY NEWS..

Mutual aid rolled into Meddybemps from Charlotte, Alexander and Cooper.

The call came in just before noon Saturday at the junkyard on Route 191.

The chief said it was "surround and drown" until they could hit the burning rubber products with foam.

"Once we got the foam on it we knocked it down," Winchester said.

Winchester said there were no injuries.
