Chief Milburn started his law enforcement career in Baileyville where he spent one year before being hired by the City of Calais. He spent a total of 36 years in law enforcement, many of those as Chief of Police for Calais, before retiring in 2008 due to failing health.

In his job as police chief, Mike Milburn was a stand up guy. He wore more than the uniform for the city of Calais.
There was that defining moment for Mike Milburn back in 1995.
There was a DARE dance at the Calais High School -- it was right around Easter. And then came the suggestion made on WQDY that Chief Milburn should show up in bunny suit.
Somebody went to Bangor and got a full-size pink bunny suit complete with a little tail for the chief.
Milburn went to the DARE dance that night at the high school -- in a pink bunny suit -- he stayed in the suit the whole night..Unfortunately, we don't have a picture of that -- but the Calais Police Department has the one on the left and I have the one on the right ...
There must have been a good response to the bunny suit because every time from then on when the Calais police were involved in raising little bit of money for the DARE program or an eighth grade class trip, Mike Milburn would don some kind of outfit -- dressing up as a hula girl, or being wrapped up in cellophane or wearing a lavender-colored number and serving food at the Calais Motor Inn for a Tip-a-Cop event.

Mike was an enthusiastic hunter, fisherman and softball player. He cherished time at his camp at Tomah.
He was a former member of the Calais Rotary Club, Calais Lion's Club, Maine Chiefs of Police Association, The Blue Knights and served for two years on the Calais City Council.
