Sunday Morning Crash Kills Jonesport Man - Jan. 27, 2013
JONESPORT, Maine (WQDY) -- Speed was a factor in a two vehicle crash Sunday morning in Jonesport that claimed the life one man and sent another to the hospital.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said Randy Thistlewood, 56, of Jonesport was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Main Street His body was extricated from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life.
A 911 call came in at 6:04 a.m. by the other driver involved, Peta Johnson, 52, of Beals. Johnson was transported by ambulance to Down East Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Sgt. Randy Perry of the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, along with Jonesport and Addison fire departments and the Moosabec Ambulance Service.
According to Perry's preliminary investigation, Thistlewood was traveling east on Main Street in a 1999 Chevy Malibu, at a high rate of speed, well in excess of the posted 25 mph speed limit. Johnson was traveling west operating a 1994 Ford F-150.
Thistlewood began to lose control of his car, skidded across the centerline, hitting Johnson's truck. Thistlewood was killed by the impact of the crash.
Police said neither operator was wearing a seatbelt. Airbags were deployed in Thistlewood's car.

The crash remains under investigation.
