The crash happened on the Ridge Road by the boat landing at Boyden Lake at about 2:45 p.m.
There were some students aboard the bus but they weren't injured.
Deputy John Peterson of the Washington County Sheriff's Office told WQDY NEWS the driver of the pickup truck came down over a hill and the sun was in his eyes.
"He couldn't see anything and he ended up rear-ending the school bus," Peterson said.
"There were kids on the school bus and the driver did a good job. He got them to a nearby home to get them warm and the parents came and picked them up."
"The pickup truck was actually on fire when the crash first happened. The Robbinston fire department came and put it out," said the deputy.
Calais Fire-EMS responded to transport the driver of the pickup to Calais Regional Hospital.
