Probe Into Cemetery Theft In Danforth Continues - Nov. 28, 2012

State Police continue to investigate a theft from the graves of veterans in Danforth earlier this month.

Forty bronze U.S. veteran flag holder posts were stolen from the Hilltop Cemetery off Maple Street in Danforth.

There have been no leads.

State Trooper Jason Fowler told WQDY NEWS the theft was discovered when cemetery workers went to remove the markers for the winter.

"When the staff went there to get them, probably almost a quarter of the graveyard had them removed. We're talking over 12 to $1500 worth of the bronze medallions," Fowler said.

"Words really can't express it," said the trooper.

"Those were on graves of veterans who died to make and keep this country what it is -- and just the disrespect in that is disheartening."

The time frame police believe the markers were stolen ranges from Nov. 3 to the 15th.

"Someone knows something. If you know anything about it -- step forward so we can make this right," Fowler said.

The Maine State Police dispatch center number is 866-2121.

"Just let them know it's on the case of the cemetery theft in Danforth and Trooper Fowler."
