Troop J Weekly Report - Jul. 30, 2012

This week Troop J responded to 178 calls for service. The following are noteworthy complaints:


July 23:


Sergeant Jeffrey Ingemi and Trooper Andrew Foss responded to a fight complaint in Trescott. They were separated for the night.


Trooper Michael Southard handled a speeding motorcycle complaint in Fletchers Landing where he arrested a 23-year-old man for operating under the influence of alcohol and driving to endanger. He was also summonsed for possession of drug paraphernalia and operating after suspension.


Trooper Jason Fowler received a criminal trespassing complaint in Robbinston. A vehicle had pulled into the driveway and parked close to the barn. The vehicle left a short time later but was not located. The investigation continues.


Trooper Jason Fowler investigated a criminal mischief complaint in Princeton. Trooper Fowler received a report that three windows had been broken out of an unoccupied and foreclosed residence and graffiti was written on the walls. Investigation continues.


Sergeant Alden Bustard summonsed a 21-year-old Penobscot man for Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle as the result of a traffic stop in Orland.


Trooper Cliff Peterson received a report of a vehicle operating erratically on Route 1 in Sullivan. Trooper Peterson located the vehicle in Milbridge and arrested the operator, a 45-year-old woman from Dover, NH, for OUI. She was transported to Milbridge Police Department.


Sergeant Alden Bustard received a report of a gas drive-off in Orland. A silver Chevrolet pickup had left the store without paying for forty dollars in gas. The vehicle was not located.


Sergeant Alden Bustard investigated a missing person complaint in Orland. A migrant worker had arrived in the area the previous afternoon to rake blueberries. The worker had disappeared from the tent sometime during the night. It was later determined that the migrant worker had left the campsite to work for another company. The Warden Service also assisted at the scene.


Sergeant Alden Bustard investigated a criminal mischief complaint in Dedham. A window screen had been torn sometime over the weekend and there were pry marks on the window frame. The investigation continues.


July 24:


Sergeant Jeffrey Ingemi responded to a fight complaint in Marshfield. This was found to be verbal only in nature and everything was calm upon arrival.


Trooper Daniel Ryan handled a theft complaint in Blue Hill where a purse was reported stolen. Investigation continues.


Sergeant Alden Bustard investigated a fatal motor vehicle accident on Route 1 in Orland. The investigation disclosed that a 64-year-old Edward Sargent of Sullivan man was traveling west on Route 1 in Sullivan in a white 2005 Ford Mustang. He drifted off the south side of the road and struck a large tree stump. Sargent was transported to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth where he was pronounced dead. Trooper Cliff Peterson assisted with the investigation. The Orland Fire Department and Bucksport Ambulance service also assisted at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.


Sergeant Alden Bustard received a harassment complaint in Trenton. The person was given a warning.


Sergeant Alden Bustard received a telephone harassment complaint in Orland. The person was given a warning.


Sergeant Alden Bustard received a theft complaint in Tremont. It was reported that an outboard motor had been taken from a boat sometime during the night. The investigation continues.


July 25:


Trooper Michael Southard handled a trespass complaint in Great Pond where the person was warned for trespassing after they were found camping out on an island. Warden Alan Curtis assisted.


July 26:


Trooper Daniel Ryan handled a trespassing complaint in Dedham. A warning was given.


Trooper Daniel Ryan handled an assault complaint in Lamoine. Investigation continues.


Trooper Daniel Ryan summonsed a 20-year-old man in Tremont for criminal speed and possession of usable amount of marijuana.


Trooper Michael Southard handled a harassment complaint in Sullivan where the person was warned against harassment and trespassing.


Trooper Michael Southard handled a criminal mischief complaint in Township 16 where a shed door was damaged. Investigation continues.


July 27:


Trooper Cliff Peterson received a theft complaint in T-4. It was reported that a driver's license and two credit cards had been taken from their vehicle.


July 28:


Trooper Cliff Peterson received a criminal mischief complaint in Dedham. It was reported that there is an old camper in the backyard and someone had thrown rocks through the windows.


Trooper Cliff Peterson received a theft complaint in Dedham. It was reported that someone had taken a tree stand from the property sometime within the last month.


Trooper Cliff Peterson responded to a report of an ongoing criminal mischief complaint in Lamoine. The investigation disclosed that numerous mailboxes had been smashed in the area of the Beach Road and Douglas Highway. One of the victims observed the vehicle involved and obtained the registration plate number. The occupants of the vehicle arrived at Ellsworth Police Department a short time later stating that they were being falsely accused of damaging the mailboxes. As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old male and a 21-year-old woman, both of Ellsworth were arrested for Violation of Conditions of Release and Criminal Mischief. Sergeant Alden Bustard, Trooper Chris Smith and Hancock Sheriff's Office also assisted with the investigation.


Trooper Chris Smith responded to a reported assault. The complainant was not injured and refused to cooperate with Trooper Smith's investigation. No further action taken.


Trooper Chris Smith arrested a 40-year-old Ellsworth woman for operating under the influence as the result of a traffic stop on Route 1 in Hancock. She was additionally summonsed for possession of a usable amount of marijuana.


July 29:


Trooper Chad Lindsey conducted a well-being check in Lubec at the request of family members where the person was found to be okay.


Trooper Chad Lindsey arrested a 23-year-old man in Lubec for having an active warrant for his arrest.


Sergeant Alden Bustard and Trooper Cliff Peterson assisted Marine Patrol Officer Mike Pinkham with apprehending a 32-year-old Sullivan man on an outstanding arrest warrant for violation of probation. Officer Pinkham had observed the subject riding a bicycle in the area of the Town Landing Road. As Officer Pinkham approached the man, he fled into the woods. Sergeant Bustard and Trooper Peterson located him a short time later on the Grange Road and took him into custody without further incident. Gouldsboro Police Department, Hancock Sheriff's Office and the Warden Service also assisted at the scene.
