The Calais School Committee met on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the Calais Middle/High School Library at 6:30 p.m. Attending were: Chairman Joseph Footer, Vice Chairman Robert Greenlaw, Celia Geel, James Macdonald, Michael Chadwick and Superintendent of Schools Ronald Jenkins.

I. Call to Order/Introductions

Chairman Joseph Footer called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the board in the Pledge of Allegiance and a Moment of Silence.

II. Consent Agenda

A. Motion by Celia Geel, second by James Macdonald, unanimous vote to add an item Nominations of Coaches for Spring Sports to the agenda under New Business.

B. Motion by Michael Chadwick, second by James Macdonald, unanimous vote to approve the Minutes of the March 10, 2021 meeting.

III. Present Communications to the School Committee received from the community

None noted

IV. Public Participation

Principal Mary Anne Spearin informed the board that they would receive a copy of the NEASC Accreditation Report by the end of the week.

V. New Business

A. Motion by Bob Greenlaw, second by Celia Geel, unanimous vote to approve the Superintendent’s recommendation to hire Linda Kerr as Administrative Assistant for the Blue Devil Health Center.

B. Motion by Michael Chadwick, second by Bob Greenlaw, unanimous vote to act on the Superintendent’s recommendations to approve the following for Spring Sports.

Softball Volunteers Trisha Farrell
Shannon Brown

Tennis Bill Greenlaw
Tennis Volunteers Alicia Greenlaw

C. Motion by Michael Chadwick, second by Bob Greenlaw, unanimous vote to accept the resignation of Rebecca Hanson, Title I Ed Tech at Calais Elementary School.

D. By consensus the board directed Superintendent Jenkins to contact the City and request permission to erect a plaque at the crosswalk on Garfield Street in memory of the late Jack Monaghan who served as a volunteer crossing guard for many years.

E. The board discussed and will continue with the present learning methods. Principals Sue Carter and Mary Anne Spearin reported on the openings. All but six or seven students have returned to Calais Elementary School full time and all but three students have returned to Calais Middle School.
