State Fire Marshal’s Office

 

On 01/11/2021 Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office arrested 59 year old Douglas Knowlton of Troy. Knowlton was charged with an Arson and Attempted theft by deception. He was arrested at his residence and taken to the Waldo County jail. The charges were filed as a result of an investigation involving a vehicle fire that occurred in March on route 9 in Troy.

On 1/12/2021 Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s office charged 36 year old Melissa Keller of Montville with Arson, Attempted Theft by Deception, two counts of Negotiating a Worthless Instrument, Perjury and Forgery. The charges were filed as a result of an investigation involving a residential fire on the Hunter Road in Unity in September of 2018. Melissa is currently at the Know County jail.

 

On 1/13/21 Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s office charged 50 year old Mark Walston with Arson, Burglary and Theft. The charges were filed as a result of a camp fire reported on January 12th on Ledge Drive in Long Pond Township in Somerset County. Walston is currently at the Somerset County jail.

On Wednesday, January 13th, at approximately 8:40 pm, the Bangor Fire Department was called to a fire at an apartment building located at 208 French Street in Bangor. Bangor Police and Fire responded to the scene. They observed that a bottle, believed to be filled with an accelerant, had been thrown at a window in the apartment building. The outside of the window casing had fire damage as a result of the bottle hitting the window.

 

The Fire Marshals’ office was contacted and started a joint investigation with the Bangor Police Department. They were assisted by members of the Hampden Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and members of the U.S. Bureaus of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The investigation established that two bottles had been thrown at the apartment building.

 

On Jan. 21, 2021, Sunil Jones, 18, of Hampden, was charged with Arson and Attempted Murder for the fire at 208 French Street. Sunil was taken into custody at the Fire Marshal’s office in Bangor. He has been transported to the Penobscot County Jail.
