Proposed fish farm can build half-mile pipes underwater

BANGOR, Maine (AP) — The backers of a proposed yellowtail fish farm got state approval to build intake and discharge pipes from a site at Jonesport, Maine, almost a half-mile into Chandler Bay. The Bangor Daily News reports the Dutch company Kingfish Maine got approval for a “critical” permit for its proposed fish farm, which would be located on land. The permit allows the company to dredge material from the seafloor and to install intake and discharge pipes into the bay. The pipes would extend more than 2,500 feet from the shore. Before construction begins on the project, the company must secure multiple additional permits.
