3 Democrats appear together for last time before primary

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — One of the Democratic candidates vying for the opportunity to try to unseat Republican Sen. Susan Collins sought to use the front-runner’s prolific fundraising against her. Attorney Bre Kidman asked House Speaker Sara Gideon on Monday “why are you lying to Maine voters” about getting money out of politics while raising money at a furious pace. Gideon, who raised more than $8 million in the latest reporting period, sought to brush aside the question by saying her record at the Statehouse shows she’s not afraid to stand up to corporate or special interest industries. Kidman, Gideon and activist Betsy Sweet appeared together for a final time during a debate hosted by Maine Public before the state’s primary election on July 14.
