Maine Bank Giving Grants To Portland Library, Nonprofits

MACHIAS, Maine (AP) — A Maine bank is giving out $100,000 in grants to community groups, including the Portland Public Library. Machias Savings Bank says the grants are designed to “build resilience for Maine’s businesses.” Representatives for the bank say the grants are going to nonprofit organizations that serve businesses. A $10,000 award is designated for the Portland Public Library, which has shifted to an online format since the coronavirus pandemic began. Machias Savings Bank said the funding will help pay for staffing expenses that stem from an increased need for business-related support programming.
