Maine tribes get boost for pandemic care; reopenings soon

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — An agency that provides health care and other services to American Indian tribal groups in Maine is getting $300,000 from the federal government for pandemic response.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is giving the money to Wabanaki Health and Wellness.

The federal agency says in a statement the money is intended to “prepare, prevent and respond to COVID-19 in rural tribal communities in Maine.”
The state is also scheduled to move into a new phase of reopening on Monday.

There have been more than 2,100 cases of the virus in Maine.
