Popular Acadia National Park bus won’t run this year

ACADIA BUS CANCELED

BAR HARBOR, Maine (AP) — A bus that serves Acadia National Park and surrounding areas is indefinitely postponed this year. The service, Island Explorer, would have normally begun on Memorial Day weekend on the Schoodic Peninsula and June 23 on Mount Desert Island and continued through Columbus Day. It’s a bus that runs without fares and served more than 648,000 passengers last year. Downeast Transportation said social distancing guidelines would have made it difficult to operate the bus, which is often running at capacity. Downeast’s executive director, Paul Murphy, said the decision was difficult but made with the safety of employees and the public in mind.
